The Japan Rugby League One (Minato-ku, Tokyo; Chairman: Genichi Tamatsuka; hereinafter ‘League One’) hereby reports on the current status regarding the additional registration categories (Categories A-1 and A-2) to be introduced for player registration from the 2026–27 season, as follows:

Regarding Settlement Negotiations

League One is currently engaged in settlement negotiations with the players who have filed a petition with the Tokyo District Court seeking an interim injunction to suspend the implementation of the regulation introducing additional registration categories for players, which is due to be introduced from the 2026–27 season (announced in May 2025).
During settlement discussions before the Tokyo District Court, the parties have been discussing a proposed revision under which certain players who would have been classified as Category A-2 under the previously announced system would instead be classified as Category A-1.
We will announce further details regarding the revision of the system in due course, based on the outcome of the settlement discussions.
